anti-wrinkle injections

This treatment can be a very effective part of a total skincare package, as discussed during your consultation, to give you a natural look by reducing the appearance of the lines and wrinkles around the face while maintaining your ability to be expressive.

Fine lines and wrinkles are the lines and creases that form on the skin because of the movement of the muscle underneath. They are more noticeable on sun-exposed areas and areas of expression, i.e., the face. While there is a genetic element to the way our skin ages, there are things we can do to minimise the appearance of these lines.

Anti-wrinkle injections reduce the ability of a specific muscle to move by blocking the nerve transmission. When the muscle is less expressive, the skin over the muscle is less creased and the wrinkles appear smoother.

Small amounts are injected using a fine needle into specific muscles in the face. The procedure is very quick and usually requires no anaesthesia. After a few days the medication will have begun to take effect and the fine lines will appear smoother.

frequently asked questions

Will anti-wrinkle injections work for me?

When you come in for your consultation, we will assess your suitability for the treatment based on medical history, medications, allergies and an examination of your facial movements. Wrinkles that appear on the movement of the muscles (dynamic lines) tend to be reduced more than wrinkles that are present when the muscle is still (static lines), which may require a combination of botox and dermal fillers to improve.

Will it hurt?

Generally speaking, this procedure is very well tolerated. The needle used is very small, and only small amounts of product are injected at a time. Most people describe it as a 'pin prick' or similar to having acupuncture. If you are very concerned about pain, then anaesthetic options can be discussed at your consultation.

Will I end up with a 'frozen' look?

This is not the aim! The first time we treat you we are cautious and use smaller doses to allow you to keep some expression. This allows us to see how you respond to the botox and we can make adjustments at your follow up appointment.

How long does it last for?

Most people return for their next treatment between three and four months after the first treatment. However, everyone is different and the range we have seen is anywhere from two to six months.

Will I end up addicted to having these injections?

People often worry that once they start having botox treatments, they won't be able to stop! Think of botox like pressing pause on your skin creasing and wrinkling.  If you have botox for five years and then stop, you won't suddenly look five years older!

Where can I have anti-wrinkle injections?

These injections can be administered in a number of different places in the face, to address dynamic wrinkles in the forehead, frown, eye area, nose (bunny lines), jawline (masseter) and neck. It can also be used to treat excessive sweating in the underarms.

What are the costs involved?

We price anti-wrinkle injections per area treated and this is due to the fact that more product is required for more areas. We understand that these treatments are expensive, but this reflects that the products we use are prescription-only medications, are legally sourced from a licensed pharmacy, and the treatment is performed by a highly qualified medical professional, who can diagnose and manage any side effects of complications. We will always be completely transparent with costs, however, if you are concerned about the treatment costs, we are happy to discuss options with you at your consultation.
